Physics Dept. Forms and Procedures

<> Tulane Policies and Forms for Hiring New Employees (link)
-All hires require a MIMIMUM of SIX to EIGHT WEEKS to process. We cannot get all the paperwork done in order to get people paid in less time than that. The university is cracking down on this, and at the same time they have decreased staff to process the paperwork.
-If the incoming person is not an American citizen, the paperwork will require a MIMIMUM of THREE to SIX MONTHS.
-Without an appropriate amount of time to process the paperwork, new hires will not get paid on time.
-For university purposes, all Post-Doctoral appointees are considered staff.

<> Tulane Policies and Forms for Hiring International Scholars (J-1 Visa) (link)
-Bringing in an international scholar takes a MINIMUM of THREE to SIX MONTHS.
-All visa paperwork must be processed and approved before a PAF can even be filled out and the paperwork processed.
-In addition to the Visa paperwork and processes, all the procedures and forms for a regular hire must also be followed. Please consult the website for those forms and procedures.

<> Graduate Students' Enrollment and Status
-All students who are not taking classes full time must be registered in dissertation research every semester to keep their status as full time students and to be eligible for health insurance assistance.

<> Graduate Students' Health Insurance Supplement
-As per the Office of Research, all T.A.s and BORs will receive $325 each semester from the SSE Dean toward their health care costs, for a toal of $650/year to help pay the student insurance fee of $1,893. All R.A.s will receive the same amount, but it will have to be paid from the P.I.s grant.
